Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A denial of service (DoS) vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Windows TCP/IP stack. The vulnerability is due to improper handling of specially crafted URLs in memory by the TCP/IP stack. The issue occurs when URL-based Quality of Service (QoS) is enabled. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted URL request to an affected server. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to cause a denial of service condition in the target system. As a result, the system may become unresponsive and automatically reboot.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to send specially crafted URLs over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows TCP/IP QOS Denial of Service (MS11-064) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Server Enforcement Violation.
