Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A denial of service vulnerability was detected in the NFS server. An error was detected in the part of the NFS server code that handles incoming RPC messages via TCP. When the server receives a message with a zero-length payload, it would cause a NULL pointer dereference, allowing a remote attacker capable of sending RPC messages to an affected FreeBSD system to crash the FreeBSD system.

Protection Overview

IPS will detect and block crafted requests sent to the target NFS daemon.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the FreeBSD nfsd NFS Mount Request Data Length Denial of Service protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
