Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists in Microsoft SharePoint Server. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could potentially issue SharePoint commands in the context of an administrative user on the site. The vulnerability is caused when Microsoft SharePoint Server does not properly handle malicious JavaScript elements contained within a specially crafted site content, allowing the script to be displayed back to the user's browser. For this vulnerability to be exploited, a user must visit a specially crafted page usually only available to SharePoint administrators.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft SharePoint Web Analytics Cross-Site Scripting (MS13-024) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
