Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description An information disclosure vulnerability exists when Windows Live Writer fails to properly handle a specially crafted URL. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could perform various actions on behalf of the logged-on user. These actions include the ability to overwrite files and reconfigure system proxy settings.A remote attacker can exploit this issue by enticing a target victim to open a specially crafted web page.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to open a malicious HTML file.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Windows Live Essentials Improper URI Handling Information Disclosure (MS13-045) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
