Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A code execution vulnerability exists in Novell Netware. The vulnerability is due to a stack buffer overflow in NWFTPD.NLM when processing DELE FTP requests. Remote authenticated attackers can exploit this vulnerability by sending maliciously crafted commands to the affected server. In attack scenarios where code execution is successful the behaviour of the affected server depends entirely on the logic of the injected code, which will be executed within the security context of the affected service. In situations where code execution is not successful the affected service may terminate abnormally, causing a denial of service condition.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Novell Netware FTP Server DELE Command Stack Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
