Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A stack buffer overflow vulnerability exists in Oracle Outside-In, a set of libraries used to decode many file formats. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error while processing OS/2 Metafiles. Oracle Outside-In is embedded in many enterprise applications. This vulnerability can be exploited by causing an application that uses the vulnerable libraries to handle a malformed files. Depending on the application, user interaction may be required. Successful exploitation can result in execution of arbitrary code or a denial of service condition in the context of the affected application.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Oracle Outside In OS 2 Metafile Parser stack buffer overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
