Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Adobe Reader and Acrobat. The vulnerability is due to insufficient boundary check when parsing the COD tag of an embedded JP2 file. A remote attacker can exploit this weakness by enticing the host to open a specially crafted PDF file with an embedded JP2 image. Successful exploitation could result in arbitrary code execution.

Protection Overview

The protection will detect and block attempts to send files that will exploit this weakness.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Adobe Reader And Acrobat PDF Memory Corruption protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Content Protection Violation.
Attack Information:  Adobe Reader and Acrobat PDF memory corruption
