Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the Microsoft Scripting Runtime Object Library. The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the way Microsoft Scripting Runtime Object Library handles objects in memory. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by enticing a user to open a specially crafted web-page with Internet Explorer. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to take complete control of the target system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to open a malicious HTML file.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Scripting Runtime Object Library Use-After-Free Code Execution (MS13-099) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
