Vulnerability Description | Adobe develops products for creating, distributing, and viewing Portable Document Format (PDF) documents. Adobe Reader is a viewer application that allows for reading and the printing of PDF documents. Adobe Acrobat provides PDF authoring functionality in addition to those of viewing. A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in Adobe Reader and Acrobat on Linux/Unix platform. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation in the implementation of a certain JavaScript method. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing the target user to open a malicious PDF file. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected Acrobat application parsing the malicious PDF document can terminate abnormally. In a more sophisticated attack where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target host is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The injected code, in this case, would execute within the security context of the currently logged in user. |
