Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A denial of service vulnerability exists in the HTTPSTK service in Novell Open Enterprise Server. The vulnerability is because the HTTPSTK service does not close TCP connections properly after a TCP handshake. A remote unauthenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability by creating several malicious TCP connections to exhaust the maximum allowed connections. A successful attack can cause the service to crash leading to a denial of service condition.

Protection Overview

IPS will detect and block HTTPS requests sent to the server over a short period of time over port 8009.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Novell Open Enterprise Server HTTPSTK Denial of Service protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Server Enforcement Violation.
