Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Windows kernel is the core of the operating system. It provides system level services, allocates processor time to processes, and manages error handling. A remote code execution vulnerability has been discovered in the Windows kernel.The vulnerability is due to an error in the Windows kernel that fails to properly validate input passed from user mode through the kernel component of GDI.A remote attacker may trigger this issue by convincing a user to open a specially crafted EMF image file.Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code on an affected system.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows Kernel Input Validation Remote Code Execution (MS09-006) - Ver2 protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
