Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Apple QuickTime is a multimedia player that supports a wide range of media formats. The software supports parsing and displaying still image files as well as numerous audio and video formats. It also provides libraries and plugins for other applications, such as browsers, to read QuickTime media files. There exists a stack buffer overflow vulnerability in Apple QuickTime. The vulnerability is caused due to lack of boundary checks when processing the "rtsp://" URLs. By enticing the target user, a remote unauthenticated attacker may leverage the vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary code in the security context of the currently logged in user. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected application will terminate abnormally. In a more sophisticated attack where code injection results might be successful, the behaviour of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current user. |
