Who is Vulnerable? | Windows-based HTTP clients |
Vulnerability Description | A vulnerability has been discovered in the way numerous Windows-based applications follow HTTP redirection messages. By enticing a user to connect to a malicious Web server or by using Man in the Middle techniques, an attacker might cause a vulnerable application to initiate an SMB connection to a malicious server, thus obtaining its SMB credentials. Although the credentials are encrypted to a degree, they can be decrypted using known methods. |
This protection will detect attempts to redirect an HTTP connection onto an SMB connection.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
