Vulnerability Description A directory traversal vulnerability exists in Microsoft windows within the Diagnostics Hub component that could allow a privielege escalation. The root cause is that the Diagnostic Hup standard collector service fails to validate a safe path to the agent dll which may be abused to force the componant to load arbitrary dll under system privileges. A successful exploitation of this issue could allow an attacker to elevate his privileges to system.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows Diagnostics Hub Elevation of Privilege (MS16-078: CVE-2016-3231) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
