Who is Vulnerable?	HPE Data Protector 7.x prior to 7.03_108 HPE Data Protector 8.x prior to 8.15 HPE Data Protector 9.x prior to 9.06
Vulnerability Description	A buffer overflow vulnerability has been found in the OmniInet.exe component of HPE Data Protector. This vulnerability is due to lack of boundary checks on the username field in EXEC_BAR requests. A remote, unauthenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending malformed requests to the HPE Data Protector OmniInet.exe service. Successful exploitation could lead to arbitrary code execution under the security context of SYSTEM.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the HPE Data Protector EXEC_BAR username Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name: HP Products Protection Violation.
