Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Many phishing campaigns are known to use mail attachments containing JavaScript code. A remote attacker could send e-mails including such files and convince users to manually trigger their execution. This would allow the malicious code to run and infect the target system. This method is often used by ransomware such as Locky, Cerber, CryptoXXX, and others. Verify HTTPS inspection is enabled on the required ports for this protection to be effective.

Protection Overview

This protection detects and blocks attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Suspicious HTTPS Gmail Mail Attachment Containing JavaScript Code protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
