Who is Vulnerable? OpenJPEG OpenJPEG prior to 2.1.2
Vulnerability Description An out-of-bounds write vulnerability has been discovered in OpenJPEG. The vulnerability is due to a lack of validation on the index values of MCC markers when parsing maliciously crafted JPEG2000 image files. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing a user to open a malicious JPEG file with a vulnerable application. Successful exploitation would result in execution of arbitrary attacker code in the security context of the target user.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R81 / R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the OpenJPEG JPEG2000 Image Processing Out-of-Bounds Write protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
