Who is Vulnerable? Memcached Project Memcached prior to 1.4.33
Vulnerability Description An integer overflow vulnerability exists in memcached. This vulnerability is due to an integer overflow in the process_bin_update() function while processing multiple commands and the body_len parameter of a Memcached binary protocol packet. A remote unauthenticated attacker can exploit these vulnerabilities by sending a specially crafted packet to memcached. This can lead to a buffer overflow and possible code execution in the context of the user. If code execution is unsuccessful, a denial of service condition may result.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Memcached process_bin_update body_len Integer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
