Who is Vulnerable? Adobe Systems Digital Editions prior to 4.5.3
Vulnerability Description An XML external entity processing vulnerability exists in the XML parsing component of Adobe Digital Editions. The vulnerability is due to a lack of validation on user-supplied input when parsing the XML in Epub documents. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing a user to open a maliciously crafted EPUB document with the affected application, allowing the attacker to access private files.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Adobe Digital Editions Epub XXE Information Disclosure protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
