Who is Vulnerable? Eclipse Foundation Mosquitto 1.5 to 1.6.5
Vulnerability Description A stack overflow exists in Eclipse Mosquitto. The vulnerability is due to insufficient handling of the Topic in MQTT SUBSCRIBE messages. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted MQTT SUBSCRIBE message with a large number of topic hierarchy separators in the topic. Successful exploitation could result in denial of service conditions on the server process.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Eclipse Mosquitto Denial Of Service (CVE-2019-11779) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
